The process

  • The higher the resolution and sharper the focus, the better. (For pet portraits, if you can see the light reflected in their eyes, BINGO!)
  • Choose a photo with good lighting.
  • Make sure you have permission to use the photo - if you took it great. If someone else did, make sure you get the ok. No photos nabbed from the world wide web (unless it’s in the public domain).
  • I’m not saying I won’t do a cat portrait, but you have to know that cats scare me, so I’m not sure if I would do your furry feline justice. I might have to charge extra for therapy.

  • Minimum size is 20x20.
  • I can do a single fabric background (Remy, Dug, Sunflowers 1 and 2), a pieced background (Ginger, Abilene, Van Gogh Sunflowers), or incorporate the background as part of the collage (such as the “grid” style used for “Mike”).
  • I typically choose fabrics in colors that are close to those of the subject in the photo. However, nothing says we can’t do a blue dog or a purple bunny! I have an extensive “stash” of fabric scraps that I use for these pieces, but if there is a particular fabric you want incorporated, there may be an additional charge.
  • These collages are easily hung with a sleeve I attach to the back. You can also choose to have your piece stretched onto canvas. Some folks choose to hang as is, others take their canvas to a framer to install into a “floating frame.”

  • I work on one portrait at a time, and give myself 4-6 weeks to complete each. Your start time depends on what projects are in front of yours, if any.
  • I’m happy to work with you on a “rush” job for an additional charge.

  • These portraits take a lot of time - and I want to do a good job capturing your subject. INTRODUCTORY PRICING* Portrait prices start at $725 plus shipping. Still life/florals start at $450 plus shipping. These prices are for a 20x20 portrait of a single subject, pieced, quilted and bound, with a sleeve on the back for hanging. If you would like your piece stretched onto stretcher bars (over a canvas) there is additional cost. (Introductory pricing is good for projects contracted before SEPTEMBER 1, 2024. 50% deposit required.)
  • After we agree on an approach and size, and any additional details, you’ll send 50% of the cost before I can begin working. The remainder, plus any shipping costs, are paid prior to my delivering your piece. (Venmo, Zelle, PayPal accepted). Mini quilts can be rolled up and shipped, canvas pieces incur more shipping cost because of their size.
  • These pieces are all made-to-order and custom works of art, so returns are not accepted.
